The awards were presented at the Australian Micro Business Network Awards on Monday 14th October at the Powerhouse Hotel, Brisbane by Barbara Gabogrecan, Executive Director of the Australian Micro Business Network. e-JAZ, an IT company, specialise in services that reduce the barriers to international trade faced by Australian businesses when selling their products through the internet. These awards follow on from e-JAZ's recent success in winning the 2002 Business Innovation WIT Unisys Award for the JAZconvert currency conversion service. e-JAZ is also a finalist in the upcoming 2002 Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) in the Start-Up and eCommerce categories with the winners to be announced on the Gold Coast on the 2nd November. e-JAZ was formed in April 2001 by Sharon Gillett and fellow
director, Andrew Wild. Together they developed an inline currency conversion
service for e-commerce web sites called JAZconvert. This product allows
an Australian business to automatically display its web site product prices
in the currency of the person viewing their web site. For example, people
in Japan would automatically see all product prices in Japanese Yen. e-JAZ
has now grown to a client base of over 100 in Australia, the United States,
United Kingdom and New Zealand and have established several strategic
alliance partnerships. At only 27 years of age, Sharon Gillett is an inspiration to other small business owners. Sharon is actively involved in community organisations; as President of the Electronic Business Interest Group (eBIG), with Women in IT (WIT) and QUT Entrepreneur and has recently been appointed to the board of a multi-million dollar community based non-profit organisation, the Mt Gravatt Training Centre. Sharon attributes e-JAZ's success to meeting the needs of today's e-commerce businesses, continually refining business strategies and learning from the experiences of others.
